New Life Rule
The New Life Rule governs what your character may know and do after being incapacitated or killed. It applies to everyone, no matter what type of character you play, and it is each player's responsibility to follow it.
Key cooldown: if you are incapacitated during any hostile interaction, you must wait 15 minutes from the time of your incapacitation before re-engaging in the same scenario.
This rule works alongside Metagaming (what your character is allowed to know) and Powergaming (acting on unfair advantages).
Your Duties When Incapacitated (Victim)
When your character is in an "incapacitated" state (the game notifies you that you are incapacitated and your health is reduced to 0), you must not share any information about the circumstances of your death. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Names of the people involved
- Locations or directions of travel of those involved
- Any other information witnessed while incapacitated
The one exception: you are encouraged to describe your character's injuries, either verbally or using the /me command.
Respawning
You may only respawn if no one is around you and you are not in active roleplay.
You must not respawn, and must wait for treatment or processing, if an emergency services worker has verbally interacted with you or moved your character's body.
Memory Wipe
If you respawn and teleport to a hospital (using the "Local EMS Transport" option in-game), your character must forget all events that led to their death.
Your character may remember the events leading up to their death only if they were treated by an emergency services worker (police, ambulance, or fire). If anyone else transports you to the hospital, your character must forget all events that led to their death.
Conduct After You Kill Someone (Killer)
If you intend to continue roleplay with a character, do not kill them.
Once you have killed another character, the roleplay is over. Do not linger, taunt, or engage in toxic or antagonistic behaviour (for example, standing over the body, emoting, or smack talk). Move on.
Returning to the Scene Cooldown
If you are incapacitated during any hostile interaction, you must wait 15 minutes from the time of your incapacitation before re-engaging in the same scenario. You can refer to this in roleplay as your character having "PTSD".
Here, "the same scenario" means the same character or group for the same reason — the same concept used in the turn-by-turn hostilities rules below.
Revenge Roleplay and Witnesses to Your Murder
If another character witnesses your murder, they may inform your character of what they saw. You can then act on that information, provided you follow the turn-by-turn hostilities rules below.
Turn-by-Turn Hostilities
Once your character downs another character or group in a given roleplay context, you must not repeatedly go after the same character or group for the same reason. You may only retaliate if the other party chooses to retaliate against you.
Example 1
- Your character has a gun stolen by another character.
- You take revenge (following the Random Death Match (RDM) rule) and down the other character.
- That character has witnesses who provide information linking back to you.
- They take further revenge and down you.
- You are then permitted to retaliate, or you may let the situation end.
Example 2
- Your character has a gun stolen by another character.
- You take revenge (following the RDM rule) and down the other character.
- That character has witnesses who provide information linking back to you.
- The other character sets up a meeting to discuss and reach an agreement without further hostilities.
- You are no longer permitted to pursue them for this reason.
