Metagaming

Metagaming is using information your character has not naturally acquired through roleplay. Keeping in-character (IC) and out-of-character (OOC) knowledge separate is essential to a fair roleplay environment.

This rule works alongside Powergaming (acting on unfair advantages) and the New Life Rule (what your character may know after being killed).

No Use of Out-of-Character Knowledge

Your character may only act on information they learned in character. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Gaining knowledge from OOC sources, such as streams, videos, Discord, or social media, and using it to influence in-game actions or decisions.
  • Coordinating or sharing information through third-party platforms like Discord or messaging services when it hasn't been established through IC interactions.
  • Making decisions based on knowledge your character could not realistically have, such as another character's location, plans, or affiliations they never learned in character.

All communication involving characters must take place through in-server methods, such as verbal interactions, phones, or radios.

No Shared Knowledge Between Your Characters

Each character must have their own separate in-roleplay life and knowledge. No information can be transferred between your characters. One character cannot "know" or reference what another of your characters has done or experienced.

No Invented Family or Relationships

You may not refer to other players' characters as being related to yours (for example, "your cousin" or similar) unless that relationship was established in character.

Violations of the metagaming rule are treated as higher severity than a standard roleplay violation. For how warning points and penalties work, see Rule Violation Policies.
