Renting

The quickest way to get around on day one.

Rentals are paid from your bank (or cash if your bank can't cover it). The keys last 24 hours. When you're done, talk to any rental desk and choose Return Rental Vehicles: you don't need to bring the vehicle back.

Buying

Premium Deluxe Motors (PDM) is the main car dealership. Hold Left Alt on the salesperson and choose Browse Catalogue. You can take a car for a free 30-second test drive first.

• New cars are paid from your bank (or cash if your bank can't cover it), and wait for you in the dealership's loading bay or its garage.
• Stock is limited, but restocks every couple of hours.

Other places to buy:

• HK Autohaus: a player-run dealership. It also handles sales between players.
• Two Stroke Motors: motorbikes, player-run.
• Sandy Cycles and Coastline Skate: bicycles and BMXs.
• Sandy Shores Marine and High Rollers Marine: boats.
• The Country Club and Bayview Lodge: dealerships for Hydrated members, one of each model per account.
• The Marketplace app on your tablet: listings from players selling vehicles. Contact the seller by phone, then complete the sale through HK Autohaus.

Keys

Vehicle keys are digital: there's no key item to lose.

• Press L to lock or unlock your vehicle, from inside or nearby.
• To share keys, hold Left Alt on the vehicle (or press F1 inside it) and choose Manage Keys. The owner can take keys back there too.
• /givekeys gives keys to everyone in your vehicle. If it's yours, /givekeys true includes the trunk.
• Parking a vehicle cancels everyone else's keys, and keys reset when the server restarts. You get fresh keys whenever you take your own vehicle out.
• Sharon at City Hall or the Court House can cut you new keys ($200), or change the locks, which cancels every key, including yours.

Driving

• Scroll up to start the engine, and scroll down to turn it off. It won't start without keys, fuel, or if the engine is wrecked.
• Upside down? Hold Left Alt on the vehicle and choose Flip Vehicle.
• Hold ` for the vehicle menu: doors, seats, windows and the interior light.
• B puts your seatbelt on.

Fuel

Hold Left Alt on a pump and choose Start fueling. Fuel is cash only, at about $20 for each 1% of the tank, so a full tank is around $2,000. A fuel can from a gas station lets you top up anywhere.

Repairs

• Repair kits: YouTool sells engine, body and tyre repair kits (24/7 stores only stock engine kits). Use engine and body kits at the engine, usually at the front, and tyre kits next to the flat tyre.
• Benny's: a self-service garage. Drive in and press E to Customise Vehicle: a full repair is $5,000 and a respray $4,000.
• Mechanics: player-run shops like Midnight Performance, Full Send Autos, Two Stroke Motors and Jet Lagged (aircraft) handle repairs, upgrades and custom work when someone is on duty.

Car Wash

Baddies Car Wash in Mirror Park is a player-run car wash. A full wash gives your vehicle a speed boost for 3 hours, until you park it. Type /vehiclebuff to see how long is left.

Storage

Cars and vans have a trunk and a glovebox, and trunk space depends on the vehicle: a van holds far more than a compact. Motorbikes, boats and aircraft only have a small glovebox. To open a trunk, you need keys with trunk access.
